Your phone has a built-in screen reader that can read the Stanza app aloud. This article explains how to turn it on and use it with Stanza, on iPhone and Android.
iPhone (iOS)
iPhones use a feature called Spoken Content. The easiest way to trigger it is with Siri.
Turn on Spoken Content:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Tap Spoken Content.
- Turn on Speak Selection and Speak Screen.
Turn on Siri:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Talk to Siri.
- Turn on Press Side Button for Siri. (You can also turn on Listen for "Hey Siri" to activate Siri by voice.)
Use it with Stanza:
- Open Stanza.
- Press the side button and say "Hey Siri, read screen."
Siri reads the screen aloud.
Note: If you'd rather not use Siri, you can trigger Spoken Content by swiping down from the top of the screen with two fingers.
Android
Android phones use a feature called Select to Speak, available on Android 11 and up.
Turn on Select to Speak:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility, then tap Select to Speak.
- Turn on the Select to Speak shortcut.
- When asked to allow Select to Speak full control of your device, tap Allow.
- Tap Got it.
Use it with Stanza:
- Open Stanza.
- Tap the Accessibility button (it looks like a speaker).
- When the Play and Pause controls appear, tap Play.
Select to Speak highlights the words on the screen and reads them aloud.
